Reported conversations No. 12 : On babies (yikes!)

Five degrees at 9am. Retina-burningly bright, with a hazy mist over the lake.

Congratulations to S and F on the birth of their third daughter. S's pregnancy was, for AJ, the first part of his human biology education : Birds and Bees Part 1. And it had him thinking.

AJ on Monday : Mama, why don't you have a baby in your tummy?
Mama (thinking fast) : Because ... I don't want another one. I have you two and that makes me happy.

AJ on Tuesday : Mama, I want you to have a baby in your tummy!
Mama (oh, no not again) : Well, darling, a baby's a lot of work...

AJ on Wednesday : Mama, if you don't get a baby in your tummy, I'll stop being your friend!
Mama (sidestepping the issue) : Whether you're my friend or not, I'll always be yours.

AJ on Thursday : Pappa, I want Mama to get a baby in her tummy.
Pappa (towing the line) : Well, we think you two are enough for us.

AJ on Friday : Mama, Pappa, are we going to have baby chicks when spring comes?
Mama & Pappa (glancing at each other) : Yes, AJ, why?
AJ : Then Mama doesn't have to have a baby in her tummy. The chicks are enough for me.

Phew! Now I'm wondering when we will be teaching Birds and Bees Part 2 : Mama, how did the baby get into that lady's tummy?

I get a lot of that too. "We want a baby in your tummy!" And also, some disbelief that there isn't a baby in my tummy. Dag namit! Matteo uses it too, "yeah, Mamma, we want another baby in your tummy!" At least your guy is on your side ;)

BTW, Strange Shores 4 is up now if you want to send people to it. Po has linked to your post too. (You can go to my blog for a direct link...)

I just always told mine when they were young. Stops all these conversations! They are too shocked and appalled to ever bring it up again:)

I get that from my oldest daughter too and she is 13!!! She realizes the no more babies are coming from my tummy so now she keeps asking us why we won't adopt a baby.

Maybe he will wait long enough on that question that he will actually get to the point of it all being gross, then you will be the one hinting and asking general questions to assess his knowledge. Not that I know this from personal experience or anything ...

Didn't take long for the little guy to make the connection between the baby animals and the baby humans! They see everything, kids!

Brilliant, its just like Lucy saying to Grandma "as we are short of money in the UK we could just print some"
Grandma "Lucy what do you want to eat" ?
Lucy "I'd really like some snake and kidney pie". Out of the mouths......

Big Brother (6 years old) thinks that if his daddy and I stare into each other's eyes and say a special prayer, I will have a baby in my tummy. Oh my goodness, babies on eye-contact...Can you imagine that?!
