Quote of the week No. 50 : On Patience

Nineteen degrees at 8am, with a good cooling breeze. Could do with a bit of rain.

Living in Carmine Superiore these last few years, I have learned many things. How to light a fire, how to pluck a chicken, how to walk quietly in the woods, how to save a life, how to find my place in the family I made. Most particularly, I have learned patience.

I live in the land of Leonardo, who wrote:

“Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold. For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases, it will have no power to hurt you. So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will then be powerless to vex your mind.”

Powerless to vex your mind... Yes.

How could Leonardo be so wrong? One should stoke one's inner fires and rage!

What a beautiful place Italy is though to learn the art of patience, I was never so patient when I lived in the UK.

Very true. I learned long ago to possess great patience.

Ilse: Yes, there's the rage option, but after a number of years patience is the only way to go...

And Richard Rybolt wrote - "There will be a time when loud-mouthed bullies seem to be getting the best of you. When that happens, you only have to be patient and wait for them to self destruct. It never fails."
