Anyone for a Pironi?

Short, sharp rainstorm at 2am. That's that then (as my grandmother would have said).

'Graffiti', Hotel Pironi, one of Cannobio's most famous hotels,
housed in a Renaissance-period palazzo.

Is that really graffiti? Looks more like the hotel's own logo or handiwork...

I like our Barlow quote. It is sad that the best efforts of government have led us to where we are today, huh? wb

Sell that space as an ancient graffiti done by earlier humans... :-))

It looks antique!

I was going to ask the same thing, Fi. Is it the symbol or the white space that is the graffiti?

Hi all -- thanks for your comments! I called it graffiti (and I meant the hotel logo) because they've tried to make it look like an ancient scratching (note the inverted commas...) -- the plasterwork is flaking after only a couple of years, and it made me think of what would have happened if the same workers had done the Sistine Chapel. I didn't crop it out because I thought it made a nice juxtaposition (golly, what a big word for a rainy day!)

I get it now! But what shoddy workmanship.

Colours are lovely. We have just had a downpour but the forecasters got it right for once. First frost yesterday morning but hot by midday.

Great textures.

You know, these old places are like organic, living beings when it comes to moisture. The thick walls breathe and perspire. They grow moulds (inside). They get wet and then they're dry again. Like a hygrometer. It's pretty hard to keep plaster on them in some patches You just have to keep on doing it. I kinda like it that way. The house has a persona and a physical all of its own and quite apart from us.
