Today in 2008, No. 2

Three degrees in the shade at 9am. Still windy. Bright sunshine and blue skies. Yesterday afternoon there was a deer in Ezio's garden for the first time since last year's hunt. B will be pleased that her friend the 'goat' has come back. And today I will be working in our garden for the first time this year.

Today in 2008, Ezio was well into his late-winter chores, chores that he's only just beginning this year because of the bad weather. And Mama was extolling the virtues of the humble willow...click here for more.

Ah - the beautiful willow! Are the cats of Carmine stuck up trees - or do they save that for later?

We are still hidden under layers of ice and snow.

I do love a visit or two from deer - although they do like to nibble from the gardens...

OK, so you must "like" this cold weather, with gusts of freezing wind. And the fingers? How do they stay warm?

Hmm, portable heater in bathroom, no TV...good thing you like to read. Or do you like to read because you don't have a TV? It's like the chicken and egg question. Thank goodness too for the computer!

Your blog has a wonderful spirit and is a place to return to over and over again.

I have received the Lets be Friends reward, and would like to pass it on to you. Read more about it on my blog.

We are not nearly so gracious to our deer guests.

Hi Louise,
Glad you changed the background colour. Its much better now. How lovely to see the first deer, hunting them should be controlled.

@ Anonymous : Oh for sure, hunting is very highly controlled. There is a quota depending on annual estimates of population, and each animal is counted and checked as it's brought in by the hunters. Hunting closes as soon as the quota is reached. Last year, the dear season closed almost as soon as it opened. The wild boar weren't so lucky.

@ Lady Fi .. I love to see the animals too. I always think it's lucky. In the week that B was born I saw a different animal every day.. both kinds of deer, a fox, a badger (very rare round here) and some wild boar. It was as if they all wanted to wish us luck!

I think that degree of cold would bother me after a while. But you make it sound so wonderful.
