Nature at work
In yesterday's sunshine, I gave the chickens a few minutes of freedom and took the opportunity to take a short walk through Carmine's lanes and meadows. I was delighted to see that Nature is already at work on spring. There are narcissus and snowdrops in bud, and tiny bright yellow primulas in flower. The hazel is in exuberant mid-display and the magnolias and camellias are on the way.
Meanwhile, the young cockerel had decided to take it out on the cat, a fight ensued, the terrified chickens were scattered up hill and down dale, and my moment of carefree wandering was over.
PS By the end of the day it was snowing again.

Nice story, who won the fight? There are signs of spring here with daffs starting to show.

The cat decided to beat a tactical retreat to the baita roof to check how much fur she lost. The cockerel went back to his sand bath and eventually the girls toddled back home clucking, lured by the promise of nutella sandwiches and Swiss muesli.

Hi Louise,
Well I am disappointed, I had hoped the cat would have won and put that bully in his place - Friday, 23 January, 2009

Hi Anon...I like cats - they know when a battle is important enough to fight, and when something's not worth the time of day. If you get my drift.

Having said all that, what you have to remember at the end of the day is that the cockerel isn't in the pot precisely because he's a good watchdog - he's doing exactly what he's supposed to do, look after his girls - you can't blame animals for following their nature.
