Quote of the week No. 9 : Milton on paradise

The last few days have been rainy and cold. The landscape is black and white, black with the wet branches of the leafless trees and white with snow patches. Yesterday, Sant'Agata, the village that hangs magically above Cannobio, was playing Brigadoon among the clouds.

Here's this week's quote, which comes into my mind unbidden every time a visitor declares Carmine a paradise :

"The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."

John Milton (1608-1674), in Paradise Lost Book I.

Australian band, Crowded House also had something to say on this subject.

...and "one man's trash is another man's treasure".

By the way, I am visiting my family and the room I am in is heated with a little Titan heater.

I think of you often.
