Meteorological caprice

The temperature this morning has dropped to a shocking 19 degrees. Overcast. Damp, threatening more rain. But feeling capricious...

And this afternoon we have sunshine and 28 degrees.

Its all right for you. Its not stopped raining in the UK for the last few days and the forecast is just the same. Quite cold too with a hint of Autumn. Temperature around 60oF.

Yes, but just you wait until winter...I'll bet my bottom dollar you have central heating...

Central heating. Not anymore, now that we are being held to ransome by the foreign gas suppliers. We should have reserved the North Sea resources for ourselves instead of exporting our gas when it was cheap.

We are all being held to ransom by the energy suppliers - here in Italy, too. There will be more about supplying gas to Carmine in due course...

Are you saying that a utility has proposed laying on a gas supply. Well, just forget it unless you are a millionaire. Can you imagine the civil costs of laying a pipeline half way up a mountain and the destruction that would go with it. No utility in their right minds would consider it an economic proposition.

I think you're probably right on that count. I have a suspicion that we as a village will still be hauling wood for many years to come!

There is something good to be said about wood burning. The wisps of smoke from chimneys in the highlands of Scotland at this time of year can be smelled for miles and is very pleasant. I burn all my workshop offcuts at night as we are a smokeless zone. Naughty naughty.
