Thank you! With your photos and news I feel less "absent". When not there I miss Carmine a lot.

Is it a Korean Lilac? Also looks like a cherry blossom. Tell me quick! Did I win?

Congratulations! Both Klaus K and Gypsy at heart get Blue Peter Badges. Klaus because he got it right, and Gypsy because of her enthusiasm, which made me smile.
Here's the Blue Peter badge.

Darn it Klaus! You had to go and be a show off! I kind of graciously concede defeat but mind you, only just. Couldn't have brough Paulownia up even with my more than vivid imagination. Afterwards Louise, I remembered jacarandas (they are purple flowered too). I hate losing...
and you mistake dear, it is competitiveness rather than enthusiasm. ;-) - Monday, 12 May, 2008

Sorry, I don't understand what's about this "Blue Peter". The upload didn't work. So, I don't know what gypsy is talking about. Whatever, about thirty years ago U., the owner of the garden, bought the little plant in Pallanza at Villa Taranto or at one of the "Isole boromeo". I saw this fast growing tree also at several places in Stuttgart (germany).

Sorry - Blue Peter is a UK children's programme that has been running for at least 40 years. Children who e.g. win prizes or do something particularly useful, or charitable, are awarded Blue Peter badges. It has become a joke in many places as the emblem of precocious middle class children (and the parents who are behind them pushing)!
